Winnovation kicks off its 2016 build season

With the release of this year’s game titled, “Stronghold,” Winnovation FIRST Robotics Team 1625’s 2016 build season has begun.

For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics streamed the announcement at more than 125 events around the world. Under the rules of the game, three robots from each opposing team will attempt to weaken the opposite team's castle with boulders and then capture the tower. Robots compete independently for the first 15 seconds of the game. After this, all three robots compete as an alliance. Eight defense options for the outer works are possible that are chosen by the audience. Lights reference the strength left on both the outer works and the tower. After the tower is weakened and the game is in its last 20 seconds, robots may scale the tower to capture it.  A full description of the game is available at www.firstinspires.org.

Winnovation has just six weeks left to complete their robot for this new and exciting game. Now that they know the objectives of this year's game, team members have begun to brainstorm ideas for building their robot, and are already building the components and field.

Winnovation’s first competition, the Central Illinois Regional, is March 18-19, at Bradley University in Peoria. Its second competition, The Midwest Regional will be April 1-2 at the UIC-Pavilion in Chicago. Winnovation members look forward to seeing their supporters and community coming to support them.  If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring Winnovation, please contact Karen Hill at team1625@gmail.com.
