Winnovation just one win away from making final round at Midwest Regional

Winnovation Team 1625's competition season came to an end April 3 after coming just one win away from making it to the final elimination round at FIRST's Midwest Regional held at the UIC Pavillion in Chicago.

After winning eight out of 10 of its qualification matches, Winnovation ranked 7th out of 52 teams, securing a position as alliance captain going into the elimination rounds. With its chosen alliance partners of CORE Team 2062 from Waukesha, Wis., and Wolfbyte Team 5822 from Chicago, Winnovation made it through the quarterfinals winning both of its matches. But after a win, followed by a loss in the semifinals, Winnovation's alliance fell in its final semifinal match to alliance captain Robot Casserole Team 1736 from Peoria, whose alliance partners included PWNAGE Team 1736 from St. Charles, and Flaming Monkeys Team 3352 from Belvidere. Robot Casserole's alliance went on to beat their opponents in the final round and win the competition.

Despite the loss, Winnovation was honored to receive the Innovation in Control Award sponsored by Rockwell Automation at the awards ceremony. The award celebrates an innovative control system or application of control components – electrical, mechanical, or software – to provide unique machine functions.

The public hasn't seen the last of this year's robot, as some off-season competitions, summer camps, and exhibitions are in the works. The Winnovation team would again like to thank its sponsors, the community, parents and mentors for their support.
